Choosing a wedding hairstyle can seem really hard. There are so many options and its really easy to fall down the Pinterest rabbit hole and become completely confused! Here are my top tips and some of the things I discuss with my brides when we talk about how to choose a wedding hairstyle…
Up or down?
This is often the first thing that brides think about when choosing a wedding hairstyle. Its a pretty good place to start!
What is your dress like?
Some dresses really lend themselves to choosing certain wedding hairstyles, especially if they have statement backs. Why not show off that intricate lace and button detailing with a gorgeous swept up style or one with your hair styled to the side.
Whatever you have chosen, your hair should complement your gown, not compete with it.
How formal is your wedding?
A soft boho inspired do will perfectly complement a barn wedding like Caswell House in an unstructured dress. Think braids, flower crowns, and perfectly undone hair.

How long is your hair?
Whilst we can use extensions to a certain extent, if you have a pixie crop, it will be difficult to give you perfect mermaid hair unless you’re prepared to put some serious time and effort into growing it! Many brides believe that they need hair that is really long in order to achieve most wedding hairstyles. Happily that isn’t strictly true! So long as your hair is on or just below your shoulders (like in the two styles below), you will be able to choose from most wedding hairstyles.
Will you wear a headpiece and/or veil?
Its really helpful if you have chosen these before your trial so that we can see how they will sit in your hair and I can plan how to secure them for you. I can also design your chosen wedding hair style around them if you’d like!
How do you feel in the style?
Finally, and probably most importantly, how to you feel? If you always wear your hair in a pony tail or a messy bun, choosing a volume down style for your wedding hair might feel like a step too far. We want you to feel like you!
